It's what the supermodel said to the bartender in the 1980s. The result: The espresso martini was born.

How to create bar-worthy cocktails at home.
TIP No.1
Follow the recipe.
To begin with, we recommend following the recipe to the letter. That way you'll learn how to achieve the correct balance of flavours. To do this you'll need to ensure you measure each ingredient accurately which also ensures consistency. A jigger is a worthwhile tool to have that will enable you to measure your ingredients correctly. With all that said, making cocktails is fun and there is nothing wrong with altering recipes to suit you specific taste. For example, love sour cocktails? Sub in more citrus and reduce the sugar element.
TIP NO.2
The right tools.
Fancy bar carts and sleek cocktail shakers are all the rage, but are they essential for making cocktails at home? We don't think so, good cocktails can be made with things you already have in your kitchen. Old jam jar, measuring spoons, a shot glass to name a few. Although, if you are looking to invest in bar tools, a good shaker, jigger, strainer and bar spoon are key essentials. We've found the good old traditional shakers perform best, you can spend a fortune on a good looking shaker only to find it leaks.
Tip No.3
Use quality ingredients.
They say a team is as strong as its weakest link. Same can be said for cocktails, it's critical to not use inferior ingredients. If the cocktails requires fruit juice, use freshly squeezed - nothing tastes better. Inferior ingredients doesn't always mean cheap spirits either, don't get caught up that high price point equals high quality (although this can be true). Instead if there is a parituclar cocktail/spirit you're passionate about, do some research and find out which spirit is best within your price range.
TIP NO. 4
The right glassware.
How you serve a cocktail is vital to the whole experience, this is along with the ice and garnish which all contribute to the fanfare a cocktail deserves. There are literally thousounds of different types of glassware however you are likely to serve majority of cocktails in the following: Tall glass, Old-fashioned or Rocks glass and a Coupe. Tip: Glassware from your local vinnies or second-hand store is brilliant and you can find some real gems.
TOP NO.5
Ice ice baby.
When you're serving a cocktail with ice don't make the mistake of only adding 1 or 2 ice cubes, the ice cubes will melt quickly and make your cocktail watery. Instead fill the glass to the very top until you literally can't fit anymore in. Your cocktail will stay colder for longer ensuring you get to enjoy every last drop without too much dilution.
TIP NO.6
Go the extra mile.
A cocktail is a little bit of theatre and deserves all the finishing touches - don't forget the right glassware, ice & garnish. It's each of these elements together, that create an unforgettable cocktail. Now start mixing and creating your favourite libations at home.
